robert culp, p.e. - principal engineer

Picture
Bob Culp came to Munson Engineers from the Everett area as an experienced civil engineer specializing in street and utility design, and construction engineering.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer and has been responsible for projects throughout Washington and Idaho.  Mr. Culp entered employment with Munson Engineers as Chief Engineer and is now the senior principal.

Bob holds a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Stanford University and two Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering and Industrial Engineering from the University of Washington.  He has been employed with Munson Engineers for over thirty years.  His experience encompasses municipal consulting, utility design and management, and civil engineering work for private clients.  He represents the client in communicating with public agencies having jurisdiction over projects, arranges and hosts public meetings, facilitates the permitting processes through public agencies, authors comprehensive planning and project reports, and designs and manages projects.  In his first five years with Munson Engineers, he was design and project engineer for transforming outdated roads of Crawford Street, Cherry Street and Washington Street in the City of Wenatchee into the arterial streets they are today, and at the same time was Engineer of Record for the Wenatchee Avenue downtown "Streetscape" project.

Bob designs and manages water projects large and small.  He created a new domestic water system at Lakeview Heights, beginning with application for water rights, and then designing a large "Group A" system for residential use above the shores of Lake Roosevelt.  He designed the rebuilding of the Wilson Creek municipal water system throughout the entire town by successfully applying for a Community Development Block Grant and designing a modern system from well to reservoirs.  Smaller water systems, such as the Blue Lake Water Users Association, use him to provide solutions to water quality, water quantity and water storage problems.

A significant portion of his work centers on design of residential, commercial and industrial subdivisions.  He has designed residential subdivisions from Anacortes, Washington to Rathdrum, Idaho.  He has designed housing projects for the Sauk, Suiattle, Upper Skagit and Tulalip tribes.  His commercial development projects are particularly attractive and adapted to their environment.  His expertise in hydraulics and hydraulic modeling create uniquely appropriate solutions to storm water management, domestic water, and sanitary sewer problems of all types, sizes and complexity.  He designs public and community swimming pools and spas, such as those at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Sun Mountain Lodge at Winthrop, or Broadview in Wenatchee.  Structural design of private pools is also on his list.

Bob is licensed as an Onsite Sewer System Operation and Maintenance Provider, for providing engineering services to organizations such as the Housing Authority for Chelan County and the City of Wenatchee.  He designs drainfields for single family residences, food service establishments, industrial wastewater generators and large onsite sewer systems.

Several employees and trainees under his supervision have become practicing licensed Professional Engineers.

mark siegenthaler P.L.S., P.E. - Land surveying supervisor and professional engineer

Picture
Mark Siegenthaler is a Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor who brings 40 years of experience to our firm.  Mark provides civil design and land surveying services for private and public projects, from site feasibility analysis and master planning through permitting, design and construction.

His surveying projects have included residential and commercial boundary retracement and topographic surveys, boundary line adjustments, short plats and plats, floodplain surveys, sensitive areas delineation, bathymetric surveys, GPS control network surveys, as-builts and construction staking.  He writes legal descriptions, including view easements, access and utility easements, and boundaries. He has experience with creating mapping using LiDAR and geographic information systems (GIS).  He is a licensed unmanned aircraft system (UAS) pilot.  Mark combines his knowledge of surveying with his expertise in land development to prepare mapping that facilitates permitting and identifies potential engineering and land development issues.

Mark provides land development services including site planning and feasibility analysis, site layout, plat design, road design, storm drainage, sewer and water design, onsite sewage disposal for individual and community systems, site grading, and erosion control design. His projects have included residential properties, office buildings, shopping centers, Washington State University at Tri-Cities, and many U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy bases.  He has conducted site master planning for the U.S. Coast Guard and Washington State University, and value engineering for Metro King County.

Mark is experienced in hydraulic modeling, including creation of a WaterGems model of the water supply and distribution system for Base Kodiak, Alaska for the U.S. Coast Guard. He led a team that designed, built, and ran a hydraulic research facility at Washington State University that tested the capability of high-pressure jets to scour nuclear waste sediment.
Mark has performed hydrologic modeling and statistical analyses of natural watersheds, together with the impacts of urbanization.  These analyses have been applied to preliminary project planning and project permitting.  He led award-winning projects of student teams including preliminary designs of fish passage projects, bridges, and Americans With Disabilities Act trailhead facilities.  He has conducted HEC-RAS floodplain studies for flood insurance and project impact analyses, scour analyses and prepared hydraulic permits for bridge sites. Mark has conducted fluvial geomorphologic analyses of river meandering, and stream erosion and sedimentation.

Mark has B.S. Civil Engineering and B.S. Geology degrees from the University of Washington, and an M.S. Civil Engineering degree from Colorado State University.  As a Ph.D. candidate at Washington State University, Mark conducted research in the performance of acoustic Doppler velocimeters in different fluids, together with scour from radial wall jets.  Mark has been an Instructor at Seattle University and Washington State University, teaching undergraduate courses in surveying and geomatics, AutoCAD and Civil3D, hydrology, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, fluid mechanics and hydraulics laboratories, transportation engineering, engineering economics, and year-long senior design projects.
